The Maldives has a hot tropical climate and the temperature remains remarkably consistent at around 30°C year-round – that’s on the beach and in the water! The sea in the Maldives is warm all year round and the water temperature is an average of 29°C (yowzers!) The warm seas of the Maldives also have high visibility throughout the year; with water clear enough to see the passing fish as far as fifty metres away at times so you can enjoy your holiday, snorkelling, diving, deep-sea fishing, or cruising, at any time of year.

International flights arrive at Male's Hulhule airport, which is on an island of its own. Transfers from the airport to your resort island are either by boat, seaplane, or domestic flight, depending on the distance. If your Maldives resort requires a seaplane transfer, be aware that seaplanes only operate in daylight hours. The seaplane journey in itself is an experience, as you get stunning views of the atolls - make sure you get a window seat and that you get your camera out before boarding. The seaplane will usually land next to a floating platform, from which you will be picked up by boat to be taken the remaining few metres in shore to your resort.

The Maldives is 3 hours ahead of South Africa. The standard electricity socket is the UK-style three-pin, although there are some variations, so an international adaptor will be useful. The language of the Maldivians is Dhivehi and is very similar to several other languages from Sri Lanka, South East Asia and North India. English is also widely spoken in the Maldives.

If you’re taking a seaplane transfer, the luggage allowance is a little more restrictive than your commercial flight - you are allowed 20kg per person of baggage and one piece of hand luggage weighing no more than 5kg. Be sure to take along your best beach and casual wear, perfect for the day while a light rain jacket might come in handy in the event of the occasional rain shower and sunglasses and suntan lotion are a must. It’s also a good idea to take along a few movies on a tablet or something similar as the English TV channels in your hotel may be limited and your own goggles and snorkels – even though your resort will have this equipment available to hire, you’ll probably be happier having your own.

The individual Beach Villas are tucked within the abundant vegetation, yet only a few steps away from the beach. Facing the lagoon side of the island, they feature king size four poster beds, wooden decks at the front with daybed and sun loungers, semi open-air bathrooms and outdoor rainfall showers.

33 x Beach Bungalows (Size 70m²)
Set amongst the natural gardens of the island, the wooden Beach Bungalow features a king size four poster bed and an inviting daybed, whilst the outside deck has a daybed and sun loungers for two. The large bathroom is and includes a tempting hot tub.

35 x Superior Beach Villas (Size 90m²)
These round villas are contemporary in design and include a wooden deck featuring an alluring built in outdoor daybed and sun loungers. The bedroom is spacious and minimalist, displaying a modern king size low bed as the centre piece. The open-air bathroom leads to an outdoor whirlpool (hot tub). The added luxury of an espresso machine with complimentary refill is included from this villa category upwards.

31 x Deluxe Beach Villas (Size 95m²)
Facing the turquoise lagoon these villas feature oversized wooden decks with sun loungers, sun umbrella and daybed. The bedroom features a king size four poster bed and a built-in sunlit daybed. The bathroom has a bath/shower, twin vanities and a large outdoor area with a rainfall shower, outdoor daybed and an inviting whirlpool (hot tub) on an elevated deck.

35 x Two Bedroom Beach Houses (Size 205m²)
Ideal for families or friends travelling together, the Two Bedroom Beach Houses have two storeys each featuring separate living spaces, with individual entrances. Both come with expansive bedrooms with king size beds, daybeds and wooden sundecks or balconies. Spacious and airy bathrooms are complete with bath, shower, vanity and outdoor rain shower. These duplex villas are located at the top end of the island facing either the lagoon or reef, each accommodating 6 adults or 4 adults and 2 children.

50 x Water Villas (Size 90m²)
These magnificent villas are built on stilts, close to the house reef with its colourful myriad of marine life. The villa features an airy bedroom with king size bed and a spacious bathroom with twin vanities and rainfall shower. The villas also include an oversized two-tiered sundeck with a whirlpool (hot tub), sun loungers and sun umbrella.

30 x Deluxe Water Villas (Size 115m²)
Set in the middle of the vast turquoise lagoon, the Deluxe Water Villas feature a king size bed and a daybed. The spacious bathroom offers a freestanding bath and opens onto an expansive deck with steps down to the azure waters. In addition to the wide range of in-villa amenities, all villas from this category upwards also feature a wider minibar complete with a separate wine chiller featuring over 30 bottles from around the globe.

33 x Water Villas with Pool (Size 142m²)
The Water Villas with Pool are located either in the crystal-clear lagoon or facing the house reed, all featuring modern interiors similar to the Deluxe Water Villas. These villas also include a private pool (18m²) overlooking the ocean.

12 x Pool Villas (Size 165m²)
Set right at the edge of the beach, entry to the Pool Villas is through a private courtyard. The bedroom boasts views out to the infinity pool (18 m²) and the villa is furnished with a walk-in wardrobe and an indoor bathroom complete with a free-standing bath, twin vanity and a separate outdoor rainfall shower.

16 x Thundi Water Villas with Pool (Size 142m²)
These villas are identical to the Water Villas with Pool in style and size yet provide for an even better experience as they are located just on the edge of the famous Kuramathi sandbank.

2 x Honeymoon Pool Villas (Size 310m²)
Designed for couples celebrating romance, these are large one bedroom villas with a separate living area. The bedroom features a king size bed and a daybed whilst the living area includes an inviting sofa and a large flat screen TV, DVD player and an espresso machine. A private sanctuary at the back features an open-air bathroom with twin vanities, large ceiling LED-lit shower, a bath for two and an air conditioned lounge. A 10m lap pool completes this piece of heaven.

The setting emanates well-being and tranquillity where ancient rituals have been integrated with the highest quality European beauty products and Far Eastern natural essential oils, all in great respect to the environment and location. A relaxation area and separate wet areas for men and women are available, each featuring steam, sauna, icy plunge pool and rainfall shower. Kuramathi Spa offers single and couple treatment rooms both on land and over-water.

The menu includes a selection of treatments meticulously thought of for both men and women ranging from specific skin care treatments and a variety of body care programmes to foot care and hair care. The body massages and care programmes are performed by a team of highly trained professionals from Asia and are based on traditional rituals from Europe, India, Thailand and Indonesia.

BAGEECHA KIDS CLUB
Bageecha, which means ‘garden’ or ‘park’ in the local language is the Kids Club at Kuaramathi . It is open daily from 08h30 to 19h30 and offers complimentary services for all children from 3 to 12 years. The creche is able to provide babysitting services at an extra charge for babies and toddlers below the age of 3. Bageecha is also open by prior reservation from 19h30 until midnight at an additional cost.

The spacious club has an outdoor area with whale seesaw, swing set, sandpit, barbecue area, one big splash pad for all the children, one small splash pad for small children, a tree house and a large children’s swimming pool. Several sports activities are organized such as badminton, soccer, ping pong, tennis, cricket, Olympic games and water polo. Other activities include arts and crafts, musical chairs, marine life activities, botanic walks, movies, BBQ, and visits to the Eco Centre. A trained team ensures that the little ones have a fun time on Kuramathi whilst allowing their parents to do the same.
