Ships sailed the Spice Routes, and the Raa Atoll was the ideal spot to stop, do a little trading, restock and wait for the weather and winds to turn in their favour. The unique Museum of Island Heritage in the centre of the island showcases findings dating back nearly a millennium, ancient memorials dating back 500 years, and perhaps the most extraordinary find on the island, two temple tanks thought to be around 900 years old. Visit the 120-year-old traditional Maldivian house, with displays of traditional island life in the 1900s.
